Real men love cats, despite what popular opinion says. Surely you’ve heard all the stereotypes. Cats are for women, wimps, and geeks. Cats are aloof, untrainable, uncaring creatures that will suck your baby’s breath during the night. Well, lets finally put an end to all that nonsense, shall we? The truth is, felines have appeal for even the manliest of men. So whether your favorite movie is The Notebook, or whether you laughed when Ol’ Yeller died, this cat’s for you!
There are so many ridiculous stereotypes about cats. They are aloof, unpredictable, lazy, independent, uncaring little fur balls. They love to bite and scratch and vomit in your favorite shoes. (Well, the last one may be true sometimes – sorry Dad!). However, cats come in as many varieties and different personalities as humans. Trying to lump all cats into one box is like saying all Southerners like country music or all men like football. Having a close-minded view of the world or relying on preconceived notions is a true sign of a weak character.
Sure, some cats can be jerks. But so can some men. But a vast majority of cats are inquisitive, affectionate, and very bonded with their humans. You hear it all the time. “My cat acts like a dog! He greets me when I come home and follows me everywhere.” No, my friend. Your cat is acting like a cat. Welcome to the real world of feline affection!
Not to insult my canine furiends, but come on, dogs. Take a break from the human-worship for a minute. Cats can be extremely affectionate and cuddly. Most actually prefer human interaction to food or treats. But we felines also know when it’s time to take a break. I love my Dad, but there is such a thing as too much love!
It’s okay to feel needed a little bit. But what sort of insecure guy needs to be constantly worshiped and adored? Seriously, if you can’t take a poop without your best friend, it may be time to find some new friends. I’m just sayin’.
Whether you seek the attention from the females of the species or not, if you love cats, you’re gonna get it! What is it that attracts women to a cat-loving man? It’s hard to say. But it’s also hard to deny. Maybe she instinctively feels that he will be a nurturing soul. Maybe she believes that he will be better with non-verbal communication. Or maybe it’s just that cats are so cute they make anyone irresistible! But if you don’t believe me, just check out a few of these books to confirm. (And I apologize that the second on the list is a little naughty, but it proves my point!)

So, whatever the mysterious reason might be, if you are a cat-loving man, there are sure to be plenty of females falling at your paws… erh, feet.
Who cares what societal norms are? Who writes these silly rules, anyway? A real, confident man has nothing to prove. So what if “cat lover” is not at the top of the list of masculine traits? Maybe it should be. Because what is tougher than a man confident in his masculinity? What’s stronger than a man willing to show love to a creature a mere fraction of his size?
Although cats are highly trainable, we are not easy to control. And that’s okay. The human-feline bond is based on mutual love and affection, not dominance and control. A small dose of meekness and humility never hurt anybody!
Sure, cats can be easier to take care of than dogs. They don’t require walks. The sound of a doorbell doesn’t result in chaotic pandemonium. But that doesn’t mean that caring for a feline isn’t a lot of work. Cats require lots of attention and exercise. And, generally speaking, cats tend to live longer than dogs. Adopting a kitten may sound like a cute idea, but it can be a commitment of twenty years or more. That is a commitment of time, energy, money, and love. Not to mention the fact that you’ll have to dig through a cat toilet every day for the next couple of decades. (Mom, why did you just let out a big sigh?!)
If I could impart one piece of wisdom for you to live by, this would be it. Never trust a person who doesn’t love cats. It’s that simple. It comes down to this. There are three types of people in the world.
1.) People who love cats.
2.) People who may not like cats but really don’t know cats. Some people just think they don’t like cats. These people typically fall into the category of a traumatizing childhood experience (that was probably their fault, anyway). Or, some people still believe the silly feline stereotypes as discussed above. These people can be forgiven for their obvious ignorance. All measures should be taken to bring them to the light.
3.) Evil people. Run the other direction!
I can make a list of a million different reasons why real men love cats. But the answer is quite simple. Cats are amazing. We have the ability to be entertaining, even when asleep. We can communicate clearly without moving a muscle. We can make you feel so honored with our presence in your lap that you would risk bladder rupture rather than disturb our purring slumber.
But real men love cats because cats are loveable. And there is no shame in that. Because, at the end of the day, the only thing that really counts is love.
