A Visit From Santa Paws – A Poem By Pebbles The Blind Cat

A Visit from Santa PawsEvery year on Christmas Eve Mom and Dad read us “A Visit From Saint Nicholas” by Clement C. Moore. This year I was inspired to tell my own story with inspiration from this wonderful poem. I hope you enjoy!

A Visit From Santa Paws

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all down the hall

Brofur Milton was chasing a glass Christmas ball.

The stockings were hung on the mantle with care,

In hopes that dear Santa Paws soon would be there.

The canines were nestled all snug in thier beds,

While visions of chasing squirrels danced in their heads.

With Dad snoring loudly and Mom counting sheep,

It was clear to us felines they were all fast asleep.

When in the front yard there arose a loud clatter,

I jumped with fluffed tail, wondering what was the matter.

Away to the window we both ran full force.

Milt timidly peeked out to find out the source.

The front yard was chilly, all covered in snow.

The weatherman said it would be two below!

When, what to Milt’s dilated eyes should appear,

But a mackerel cat, looking wide-eyed with fear.

With a mew and a tremble, though his coat was so thick,

We knew in a moment he might get quite sick.

As rapid as bunnies, we ran to Mom’s door,

We mewed very loudly and pawed at the floor;

“Hey, Mommy! Hey Daddy! You need to wake up now!

We must help this cold little kitty somehow!”

We paused and we listened, but there was no sound!

They had learned to sleep on with us fooling around.

As I quickly gave up, since there wasn’t a shot,

Our cold friend outside was my primary thought.

So back to the window I rapidly flew,

With a twitch of my tail, and sweet Milton, too.

And then, in an instant, I heard ‘neath the tree

Dear Santa Paws leaving some presents for me!

Surprised that I lived with such useless dogs,

Instead of alerting, they were still sawing logs.

Then Santa Paws stopped in a moment of dread

Thinking humans were up now, and out of their bed.

He was happy to see us, no doubt about that,

The orange little Milton and a blind kitty cat.

“Merry Christmas, my friends,” his voice softly spoke.

Then he patted my head, and he gave me a stroke.

His big, giant hands were so genltle and kind.

Even though I smelled reindeer, I still didn’t mind.

A giant, wrapped package he had placed near the tree,

He said it’s a present, brought special for me!

The box was a big one, with a ribbon and bell.

But what was inside it, I still couldn’t tell.

“Oh, Santa Paws, please help our poor friend out there.

He has no one to love him, and no one to care.”

“If I help him, dear Pebbles, the rules are quite clear.

If you use up your wish, you’ll get nothing this year.”

When the humans came our of their room, bleary-eyed,

They found a large package with no name inside.

With ribbons and bells it sat under the tree.

Mom opened it up, wondering what it could be.

Mom squealed with delight when she saw what was there.

A little gray tabby with a bow in his hair.

She snuggled him softly and petted his fur,

Then our little friend mewed, and he started to purr.

When we give from our hearts, Christmas love never ends.

Merry Christmas to you all, my wonderful friends!

Dear Pebbles, that was so very sweet! But Mommy has another story, if you can get her to tell it. It’s about once when she was a human kitten, and Santa was going to leave her a calico kitten, but her room was so messy he couldn’t leave it there. And now look at her! She keeps your home spotless all the time, and not only does Santa bring her kitties on Christmas, he sends kitties that need rescuing all year round! Love, Granny Rose

Well, Santa Paws didn’t exactly deliver us baby brofur Sherlock, but we are happy to have him, anyway! Happy Mew Year!
